Two Teens Charged For Attempted Break-In At Westchester Jewelry Store

Two teenage suspects were quickly apprehended at a nearby train station after an overnight attempted burglary at a jewelry store in Northern Westchester, police say.

It happened at about 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Bedford Police responded to an activated burglar alarm at 27K Jewelers on Katonah Avenue in Katonah. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown person or persons attempted to enter the store by damaging the front door.

After a brief investigation, two suspects were located nearby at the Katonah Train Station, police say. One of the suspects was in possession of a controlled substance, according to police.

The two arrested are Mount Kisco residents Kevin J. Alvarez and Hugo A. Lopez-Ramos, both age 19.

Alvarez was charged with third-degree attempted burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, both Class E felonies, as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Lopez-Ramos was charged with third-degree attempted burglary.

Both were released without bail in accordance with newly enacted New York bail reform regulations. They are due in Bedford Town Court on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
